Stand-up Paddleboards (SUP boards) are basically like large surfboards. They come in four main styles:

Entry Level / Cruisers
These are exclusively what Christchurch Paddleboarding uses, as they are by far the best sort of paddleboard for exploring and cruising.

Wave Boards
Smaller SUPs give more manoeuvrability to allow better wave performance, but at a significant cost to general cruising comfort and stability. These boards are definitely for the intermediate to advanced rider

Big Wave Boards
Big-wave surfers are finding that SUP is a great way to get into large surf. These boards are long but narrow and, by definition, a very specialist application.

Race Boards
Very long and fairly narrow, these boards are for getting from A to B in a hurry. Relatively unstable but seriously fast!
