River Avon Exploration

Experience Christchurch from a unique perspective with our guided paddleboarding journey along the Avon River, starting at Mona Vale and concluding at Fitzgerald Reach. This 8-kilometer adventure offers an accessible and engaging way to explore the city's natural beauty and urban landscapes.

Trip Highlights:

• Starting Point: Launch your paddleboard near the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 25 Fendalton Road, just downstream of the picturesque Mona Vale park.
• Scenic Route: Drift along the serene waters bordering Hagley Park's northern and eastern edges, immersing yourself in lush greenery. As you navigate through the Botanic Gardens and past the historic Antigua Boat Sheds, the river narrows, offering an intimate view of Christchurch's vibrant city center.
• City Landmarks: Paddle beneath charming bridges and alongside notable sites, including the iconic Bridge of Remembrance and the earthquake memorial. The unique vantage point from the river provides a fresh perspective on these familiar landmarks.
• Wildlife Encounters: Be on the lookout for local wildlife, such as the New Zealand Scaup duck and eels, adding a touch of nature to your urban adventure.
• Conclusion: The journey concludes at Fitzgerald Reach, where you'll disembark at Oxford Terrance. We will then transport you back to your car at the start point.

Important Information:

• Duration: Approximately 3 hours from start to finish
• Difficulty: Suitable for beginners, although you should have been on a Stand Up Paddleboard before. You don't have to be great, but as long as you are happy making the board turn around, as well, and go forward and stop whilst on your knees, then this is the trip for you!
• Equipment: You will be given a SUP, paddle, and buoyancy aid. If you have your own equipment then you are welcome to bring that along!
• Environmental Responsibility: If you are using your own SUP, please clean it before arriving. This is to prevent the spread of invasive species. For more information, visit the Ministry of Primary Industries website.
• Cost: Adults $85, children $65 (minimum age 12, must be accompanied by an adult)
